What is West Babylon Cheer Association (WBCA)?
We are a non-profit organization for cheerleaders in West Babylon, NY (and surrounding areas) ages 5-13. We are primarily a competition league with a sideline league launching for our 2024 season!
What is competition cheer?
Competition cheer is when our cheer teams focus primarily on building routines to perform at local cheer competitions. The routines are comprised of cheers and dances and last approximately 2.5 minutes, incorporating tumbling and stunting along with high energy!
When/where are the competitions?
The competitions take place every Sunday (occasionally a Saturday) from mid-October through the end of November (before Thanksgiving). Exact times for each age group are announced at the start of the season in September and take place at local High School gyms at participating school districts across Nassau and Suffolk County. The teams can be awarded 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in 2 separate categories- cheer and dance (based on performance against the competition).
What is included in my registration fee for competition cheer?
Our normal registration fee for the 2024 season is $325 and is “bow to toe” this means it covers the cost of bows, uniform, shorts, t-shirt, socks, and shoes. And at the end of the season, you keep everything, except for the uniform that is returned. And of course, this fee also covers choreography expenses, required insurance, and our end of year party.
What is sideline cheer?
Sideline cheer means exactly what it sounds like- you cheer on the sidelines for PAL football games. The teams will also create and perform a half-time routine at all games. This is a new addition to the league in 2024! Cheering will take place at home games only (with the exception of Play off and Super Bowl Games) at Pape Field in West Babylon every Sunday from September through November. The specific times are announced early in the week leading up to Sunday and are generally between 9AM-2PM.

What does the practice schedule look like?
Competition cheerleaders can expect practice 3 days a week, with a specific schedule to be announced based on the team but would be between Mon.-Friday, 5pm-9pm. Sideline cheerleaders can expect to practice 1-2 times a week, similarly between Mon.-Friday., 5pm-9pm.
NOTE THAT 3 ABSENCES WILL RESULT IN REMOVAL FROM THE LEAGUE (At the discretion of the coordinators)
Is practice mandatory?
YES! Cheerleading is a sport that is highly dependent on full team participation to execute routines correctly. With that we require a full commitment at all practices and competition/games to ensure that the athletes can perform at the best of their ability and as safely as possible. If you feel like full commitment is not possible, cheerleading may not be a good fit for you at this time.
Can I volunteer?
Absolutely! We appreciate additional help and love to see parents get involved. There are volunteer opportunities as team parents and on additional committees that arise throughout the season. During registration there will be an option to indicate a desire to volunteer and specific areas to help.
What are the benefits of cheerleading?
Beyond the physical benefits of cheerleading, the sport helps to build friendship across team members and enhance confidence as athletes grow and learn.
